On Monday evening, July 31st, 2017, the Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission (SMADC) celebrated the 10th anniversary of their Buy Local Challenge at Robin Hill Farm and Vineyards. More than 350 people attended the event, which included a buffet dinner, vendor stands, and live music from Hayley Fahey and her band.
Tickets had to be purchased in advance, and the event sold-out the day before it was held. Those 21 and over who wanted to sample the pours from wine and liquor vendors paid $25 each. Non-alcohol tickets were $20 each. Children aged 5 and under got in free. There were more than 25 vendors on-site featuring arts & crafts, meats, honey, ice cream, cheese, baked goods, and produce.
Bailey’s Catering Inc. of Leonardtown prepared the buffet dinner, much of it locally sourced. The meal was very tasty and included:
- Grilled Sweet Corn
- Sliced, Fresh Vine-Ripened Tomatoes
- Pasta Salad, with cucumbers, zucchini, peppers, grape & cherry tomatoes
- Sliced Watermelon
- Beef Hamburgers
- Southern Maryland Style BBQ Chicken
- Rolls & Butter
- Peach Cobbler
- Coffee, Tea and Water

Each ticket-holder got one of those green bags you see everywhere in the photos. They were insulated, with a zipper-closing top, to help keep your purchases chilled. We went home with some pork (a Red Wattle/Berkshire hybrid) from R&H Farms and lamb from En-Tice-Ment Farm Raised Meats in our bag. I know other folks had wine and liquor bottles stored in their bags. It was a beautiful evening and just about everyone seemed to have a great time. ♦ 10th
